“100% I think I'm a feminist artist. My works weren't really easy in the past. Especially at the Art Academy in Warsaw, where I've been told that it won't be good to use the term feminism.”

- Helena Stiasny

Helena Stiasny is a multi-media artist from Warsaw interested in the status of woman in the patriarchal society. She uses self-portraits as a medium to challenge the subject–object antinomy characteristic for the representation of female.

Her works delve into the transitional phase between girlhood and womanhood, portraying psychological states through familiar images from art history and pop culture, and use archetypal symbols to mythologise the deeply personal aspects of femininity.
